GREAT AMERICAN TEACHING PROFESSIONAL – TRUMMIE HUDSON
Trummie Hudson

By Trummie Hudson, Level III member, Berea, Ohio

I was born in Homestead, Florida, where my passions were boating and fishing. I moved to Ohio in 1966, and was 27 years old before I set foot on a golf course.  My brother-in-law gave me a set of golf clubs and I was invited to play golf with some friends.  I used those clubs for my first round of golf and haven’t looked back since.

What really got me going was I let my co-workers talk me into joining a golf league which they claimed was a very good way for friends to be together outside of the workplace.  After joining the league, I wanted to learn more of the fundamentals of the game.  In time, I was able to grasp these fundamentals and within four years, I was down to an 6 handicap and had won a couple of local tournaments on the amateur level. In 1991, I was asked to become the teaching professional at Royal Crest Golf Course.

I knew it was  time to achieve my certification in golf teaching and in August 2001 I become a USGTF teaching professional.  I will never forget my instructors Bob Wyatt and Marty Delohery, and USGTF president Geoff Bryant, who was also there.  In 2009 I became the head teaching professional at a second facility, Mallard Creek Golf Course. Both golf courses, Royal Crest and Mallard Creek, are located in Columbia Station, a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio.

Teaching golf has become my career and I have managed to establish quite a following. I will always be appreciative of the opportunities that the USGTF has provided me.
